Societea Travels: 2014 Revealed

by TheSocietea on December 22, 2013

2013 was a pretty solid year in travel.  As I’ve started pondering  goals for my career, savings, and relationships over the last few weeks; I couldn’t help to mentally begin compiling a list of places that I plan to visit in 2014. The three places selected were inspired by either a part of the world I haven’t tackled or an experience that I’ve wished to gain. Writing out my travel goals helps me to stay focused when it comes to saving money and working extra hours (which is the only way that I’m able to afford travel at this time…sponsors are welcomed!).

So the winners of my presence in 2014 are:

1. Bangkok, Thailand (including Phuket and Chang Mai) – April 2014

Why: After getting my feel of Europe, I figured it was time to set my sights on another part of the world. I originally stumbled upon what I thought was a really cheap deal to China, but my travel companion had a greater desire to go to Bangkok. After thoroughly researching, there are several things that have me super excited about Thailand.  Bangkok will be celebrating Songkran, their new year, while we’re there. The festival is known to explode into massive water fights, which is fitting given the 95-100 degree average temperatures that occur during the month of April.  Our itinerary also includes the cultural hub of Change Mai, and some quintessential beach time in Phuket and near by islands for a total of 12 days in Thailand.

2. New Orleans, Louisiana (Essence Music Festival) – July 2014

Why: The Purple One! Also known as Prince will be performing at Essence Music Festival . And since announcing tour dates aren’t his style I have to catch him while I can. I’m envisioning great music and catching up with good friends during this trip.

3. Orlando, Florida (Disney Food and Wine Festival) – October 2014

Why: I’m known to invite myself on other people’s vacations. So when a coworker mentioned this trip in passing I was all for it. I haven’t had a full on Disney vacation since I was six. Food + wine + Disney who can refuse such a combination? Hopefully the invite is still extended 10 months from now =)

Where will travel in the new year take you?

I’ll be going to New Orleans too but for Wrestlemania. I wanted to plan a trip to the Greek islands, but my Pasadena trip may nix that. But I’m determined to go, so if it doesn’t happen this year, it’ll be next year. I also have a trip planned to Jerry’s World (Arlington, TX) for the FSU/OK St game next season. I’ll also be in Sarasota (work trip), Hollywood, FL (conference), and Tampa (wedding). 2014 will probably be my most active year in travel.

Keith! Thanks for joining in. I would nix the Greek isles for Pasadena too. It’s pretty dope that you will see our beloved Noles win a National Championship in person…did I forget to say how dope that is going to be? I’m jealous. Looks like you have some unique experiences in store. All your trips totally fit your personality which is what travel should be about. Enjoy!

That Bangkok trip looks awesome and so does the trip to Orlando. I have many friends who attend yearly. It will be nothing like our trips as kids to Disney World…lol!
I plan on making my way to Tampa at least twice this year and I am not sure about other trips. When it comes to traveling…I fly by the seat of my pants. ;-)

Lol, I was hoping Disney would be even better as an adult. I wish I could fly by the seat of my pants when it comes to travel I worry too much about the details. Keep me posted on where you end up going.

Loved, loved Thailand! And yes, you are going in the warmer months, bring a fan and a wide-brimmed hat. I thought parts of Phuket were a little touristy, but I liked it nonetheless. New Orleans is a fave of mine, one of the few places I can visit yearly and never tire of. Enjoy Prince, it sounds like an amazing year so far, for you!

Thanks for the tips on beating the heat in Thailand. Despite the high temps, I am really excited about this trip.
